Description
Ponni Rice is a type of medium-grain rice commonly used for everyday cooking. It is an excellent source of protein and is rich in nutrients. Ponni Boiled Rice is a variety cultivated in southern India. “Ponni” literally means “gold” in the Tamil language and also refers to the Kaveri River.
Parboiled rice is steamed before milling, and it’s partially cooked in the husk. This parboiling process makes parboiled white rice nutritionally similar to brown rice. While “boiled” might sound like it’s pre-cooked, it’s not. Ponni Boiled Rice yields a firmer, less sticky rice dish compared to regular white rice. It serves as a staple in South India and Southeast Asia, used in various dishes ranging from basic meals (like curries) to steamed rice cakes (idli), desserts, sweets, and more.
Ponni Boiled Rice is a common choice for everyday consumption in South India and is used to prepare dishes such as Kichadi, curries, desserts, and many other recipes. To prepare Ponni Boiled Rice, always rinse it gently in a circular motion to avoid breaking the grains. Soak the rice for 30-45 minutes before cooking, and it’s not recommended to wash it after soaking.
Nutritional Facts: Unlike brown and white rice, the parboiling process for parboiled rice begins before removing the husk. Due to this special processing, parboiled rice is a better source of fiber, calcium, potassium, and vitamin B-6 compared to regular white rice. Since parboiled rice has low fiber content, it is suitable for children and also has a soothing effect on the digestive system.
